Who Was At The Winter Show

The Winter Antique Show at The Big Red Barn in Round Top Texas always has some of the best vendors this side of Texas. You can usually find a mix of it all from industrial, chic, some white, and everything else in between.

This was Cindy Clark's first time to the sell at the show and she always finds some of the best things. Take a look:

I've decided to wrap up the posts on Judy Hill's Christmas show with the following pictures. This is the front porch. Look at all the pretties that greeted you as you walked up to the door:

I had a tree bench similar to this one for sale at Zapp Hall this past show. I'm sure the guy that bought it didn't even visualize to do this because he bought it without wanting it. All I'll say is golf carts and antiques don't usually go hand in hand?

Judy's Christmas Show~

I wanted to show you Judy Hill's Christmas show, room by room. I'm hoping that by seeing each part of her gorgeous home that you'll feel as if you were almost there. I might add if you see something in the pictures that interest you, you can contact Judy to see if it's still available. Okay, grab your favorite drink and lets go on the tour:

We will start off in her living room. The most unique thing was of course the coffee table made from the tub. How fabulous was this. I also loved all white slip covered furniture.

Everything in this room just made you feel so calm. That's why I love white so.

Look at this medical cabinet and chair was pretty fabulous too.

The mantle sure looked pretty all decked out for Christmas.

And what a cleaver window treatment. The white metal chairs brought back memories of being in a country church and sitting on similar chairs. I have several more rooms to show you. I hope you check back for more posts, there so more to show you.

Austin Vendors

I thought I'd show you a few booths of vendors that were at the past City Wide Garage Sale. It's becoming a really great almost monthly show for us. The quality of vendors is really improving as well. I've been to the show at times when there weren't many people there, but I'm really enjoying seeing all the great displays that everyone is putting together.

Since discovering Cheryl Coleman's booth at The City Wide Garage Sale back in the summer, her displays just blow me away. I can honestly say that during the big Antique Shows I've never paid the $10 to go to the Red Barn Antique Show, but I made an exception this time. Yes, I'll go during the off seasons, January and June, but normally it's so busy during show week that I can't get away. However, I decided I had to see her displays and just closed my booth down and headed to the show to be one of the first to see her booth. It was her first time at the big shows and I knew her displays would be wonderful. Her tag's had CC stamped on them but the things she had in her booth were just fabulous. Here take a look for yourself:

She definately had the Industrial look going on.

Just look at the Industrial cabinet and steps and clocks too.

Loved everything on this shelf, including the shelf.

Now this cabinet with all the drawers was too awesome.

Worn Leather

I'm always on the hunt for worn leather chairs. Kind of like the ones I saw in the movie Practical Magic:

The only problem is, the shop is not located in Texas and I don't see myself going to California any time soon? If anyone is coming my way, maybe you could bring it to me.

Now that is one serious looking Dove Cage. It's just so beautiful. My doves would love this cage.

And domes... This is another item I'm always searching for. I've been fortunate enough to have domes during the past few Antique Shows in Texas and have sold every one. I found one again for this show, actually I found two and they will both be for sale in my booth at Zapp Hall.

Laurie Anna's in Canton Tx

Laurie Anna's Vintage Home in Canton Texas is always filled with wonderful treasures, whether new or old, there's always something for you here. Each time I've visited I always walk away thinking wow what great things she has, from the dishes, to the bedding and clothing, to everything else in between. Her shop is packed to the max with wonderful things and normally people as well. Take a look at what she had last month and tell me what you think:

Charyl Coleman's Booth

It was a great weekend at the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin. It was indoors and we didn't have to beat the Texas heat. There were so many awesome vendors this month here, but I wanted to show you Charyl Coleman's booth. She finds the most amazing things. Just look at this crushed red velvet sofa and chair and I do think it went to a new home.

She has really great industrial items as well. Just take a look:

If you are anywhere near Austin Texas this weekend you should check out the City Wide Garage Sale. It's not really a garage sale, it's an indoor venue that allows vendors to sell vintage items. It runs Saturday and Sunday and there is early buying available on Saturday morning. You usually can find over 50 vendors under one roof selling anything from modern, country, primitive, industrial and just about anything you are looking for. Austin Shopping

Warning...This is going to be a long post so you might want to grab your favorite drink!!

We made a very quick trip to Austin this past weekend and I just wanted to share what caught my eye. Let's start at Uncommon Objects:

Jeanette's moved to a new space and I just loved all she had here.

I'm always loving the color blue. Those were great shutters.

Look at all the blue bottles and the blue paint peeking through on this table.

You just never know what you will find here!

The oval window in the corner was fabulous as was the oval screen.

Yes, those are rattler's. Pure art! Only Linda Parker could display something like this and it would look fabulous.

More pretties!

After we left Uncommon Objects, we found the Austin Antique Mall off McCann Street in Austin where Mickie and Brandy have a booth at. We'd never been to this mall and it's only minutes from my son's place. Unfortunatley, by the time I found their booth my camera battery wouldn't work, but I can gurantee you that their booth was awesome.

I also found Charyl Coleman's booth and another one that interested me. You may remember me going on and on about her booth last time at the City Wide Garage Sale. See the previous post for more on her:

Of course she had some great things in her space. See that industrial magazine rack leaning against the primitive cabinet, I should have bought it because I've thought about it so since seeing it last time.

I'm not sure who's white booth this was but it seemed interesting.

And I think this booth had some interesting things.

I actually spied a mannequin, which you can barely see in the corner, that I had sold to another vendor during one of the past Warrenton shows and now it's home here. Sorry about the glare but this is when my camera battery was starting to go.

I do hope to go back soon to this shop, there was just so much to see. Hope you enjoyed the tour.

City Wide Garage Sale

We went to the City Wide Garage Sale in Austin Tx this past weekend. I know the name is deceiving as it's not actually a garage sale, that's just what they call it. It's an almost monthly sale with everything from antique to modern to just about everything you can imagine. I used to do this sale several times a year but haven't been able to in a few years now, but I love to go shop it.

There were some great vendors this time and I found a new vendor and she just blew me away, Charyl Coleman. Many of the people that were in her booth, and it was packed, knew her from having designed at The Homestead in Fredericksburg Tx and several other places in Austin (and speaking of The Homestead-go read Binky's Blog today, the Homestead is closing).

Charyl had all the things I love, great vintage ledgers, yard long pictures, crusty old mirrors with the silver missing, industrial tables, stools, and many more industrial things, wooden boxes, old old books, clocks, and so much more. I know these pictures don't do justice of how awesome her booth really was:

I do wish I had taken a wider shot of this but like I said there were so many people in her space it was hard to take pics.

Loved the industrial stool and phone.

Look at this fabulous cart.

There's one of the ledger's under the hand mirror. She had several great hand mirrors.

Here's a side view of her space. She even had plants.

A great old wicker chair.

She said she also designed Hotel Havana in San Antonio and a lot of her merchandise were items she bought back from the Hotel when it changed to a new owner. She had a ton of old metal soap holders that came from the Hotel Havana, I did buy one of these.

Judy's Home Show~The Main Bedroom, Bathroom, & Dining Room

Here we are again, continuing Judy's Home Show. I so hope you are enjoying the pictures of her beautiful place. I am just in awe in all that she is able to put together for her Home Show. If you aren't exactly sure what a Home Show is, it's like attending an antique show, but in someone's home. Yes, she has everything (well almost) for sale.

Let's go into the main bedroom. This is the first display you saw when you came into this room:

Judy's Home Show~The Hallway & Front Bedroom

I've done several posts on my other blog, Garden Antqs Vintage on Judy Hill's home show that I attended this past Saturday and I think if I left out any of the rooms you just wouldn't get the full effect of just how talented and awesome Judy really is. So, I decided that I would continue my posts on this blog, just broken up into segments.

This post will feature the Front of her house, hallway, and front bedroom.

As you walked up to her house this was at the front and looked already so inviting:

The chandy was lit and the chairs were waiting to be sat in.

The arch piece around the plates was one of my fav pieces throughout her house.

A New Love

A while back while reading Velvet & Linen's blog, I saw Shane's website mentioned "Big Daddy's Antiques" and I'm just in love with all that I saw. Once I clicked on it and by the time I realized it I had spent almost an hour just looking at all the industrial and fabulous antiques. I've heard that he shops in Texas at the big shows and does he ever have a great eye for detail and display. I could literally get lost in his shop. Well, here take a look, what do you think?

See what I mean. I would love to shop here, he has it all from garden to architectural, industrial, lighting, furniture, unusual items, a one stop shopping place. Ralph Lauren Inspired

When I headed out this past week and weekend to find treasures I didn't realize that I would find things that were Ralph Lauren inspired or at least to me they were. What do I mean by that? Things that have texture and history and are so appealing to you that you can't move fast enough to see them before someone else eyes them.

I was first invited to a sale before anyone else even had arrived. And from what I could tell when I first walked up to see the sale is that they had some amazing things and many things were yet to be uncovered but you could tell there were going to be some great things for sale. We are talking about a homeowner and family that collected things from around the turn of the century and expanded through the 1920's and later and to them they probably weren't collections, but more heirlooms that had been passed down from the generations.

Things that had hand written notes attached to them explaining who owned them and where they had come from, that was just amazing to touch a piece of history that came over from Germany. One note read:

"Plush table cover, grandpa Schumacher brought from Germany. Was in his family many years, so it must be 150 years old" and that was written in 1977.

Other notes found were kept by the family. It was just amazing to see these notes and the treasures they had collected over the years.

Here's my favorite treasure found at this sale:

Even though as soon as the owners saw it you could tell it had special meaning and brought back memories, they still choose to sell it but kept what was inside. Inside was the finest pair of men's ice skates that I had ever seen. They were black and brown leather and still in very good shape even though the owner said they were from the 1920's. Then, he pulled out a fabulous brown leather bomber's jacket that was to die for. He said these things probably belonged to his uncle when he went to the Texas Luthern College in Sequin Tx. On the back side of the suitcase it has a very large 'T' and while the handles are worn it's still pretty fabulous. I actually found several suitcases at this sale and a few others I found at other places that we went to.

It does have some wear on it but overall it's still in good shape. I also bought the brown purse and white trash can at this place. They had several pieces of really old burlap that the family had used to wrap things in. These old pieces were really great.

This sale was different than what I'd been to before because they didn't have it all laid out for you to see. You had to keep going back everyday to see what they had unpacked. As they were unpacking they might tell you oh that's not for sale. It was the unknown, what would be in the next box, would they sell the item or keep it.

Here's an overall view of what I found at the sale and few other places that we went to as well:

The frames were found at other places as was the aqua industrial chair. The gold lamp was also found at another place. The box of gloves, old books which are really cool cook books with hand written recipes (or receipts as they used to call them), the black phone, cameras, letter boxes, a few other things were found at this sale.

The Two Best Shows on Earth

We were in Warrenton Tx a few weekends ago and this is how the grounds looked, no tents and no people, but this will change next week. I've since heard that the tents are already going up. Will you be there? Maybe I'll see you at one of the shows.

Old Home Places

One of my favorite past times is to drive by old home places. I don't know what it is that makes them call out to me. Do you ever just go for Sunday drives and look for old home places. Sometimes all that is left are the remains of a chimney or old house flowers. You know what old house flowers are, right? They are flowers that were planted at one time by the home owner and remain behind to bloom even when the house may be torn down. The old chimneys are just sitting there, no house, just the old bricks waiting for you stop so that they can whisper the house secrets to you. Well, wouldn't that be something if they could tell you what happened, why they remained and the house and family didn't.

A while back while on Dawn's blog, she introduced this site to us and this is where I found these images.

While this house may seem a little creepy to some, it just really spoke to me. You can tell it was a huge house. I can imagine the family that lived here probably had lots of children and the husband had to have been someone important in the town, a doctor, lawyer, who knows. I could see the mother sitting on the front porch, baby in tow, while she watched the little ones play in the massive yard. See the tree, can you picture children playing hide and seek while the one pretented to count and cover their eyes, all the while watching where the children were hiding. I know I have a vivid imagination.

Now this house, while it may be boarded up, you can tell was once grand in it's day. Just look at the peely paint color still on the house. I love the porch on it but I loved the little glass room at the top of it the most. I would have spent many hours here if it would have been mine. You would have found me reading, looking out to the city below, and drinking tea.

This house is dark and mysterious, but it still is appealing to me. Why would families leave them behind? Do you ever notice that once families leave it seem that even the house becomes sad and goes into disrepair.

I can imagine this house would have been in a grand city on a main street. It would have been owned by a prominent family, someone important, just look at the detail. Again, another wonderful porch to sit on.

What a cute cottage? Can you image it full of rose bushes peeking through the fence by a great gardener. Maybe it was the lady in the picture with her dog. It seemed it would have been a happy house.

This last picture, I can see still in the middle of a town with all new construction all around. Maybe the family won't sell and the new stores are building all around it. I can only imagine the yard would have been just beautiful. I would loved to have been sitting on this porch, watching the town grow while I continued to enjoy the house.

This weekend, I got out and enjoyed our city park. There's a new log cabin that was moved to the park around November and they are slowly constructing the original cabin back. The Sam Houston's Memorial Park, where Sam Houston's old houses have been moved for us to enjoy, is the location of where the new cabin was moved. The cabin dates back to the 1840's and Sam Houston would go hunting near the cabin's original location. What I liked most about the cabin were the front and back porches. I'll be showing this cabin in a future post.

What I Invisioned

The images for this post are exactly what I invisioned for this blog, these industrial and modern finds are really great things and you are lucky if you can come across them at a reasonable price. Items such as these are definately difficult in my area unless you want to pay a small fortune. In the meantime, until I do find these things, I can at least dream of them through these pictures:

These chairs and table are super awesome and look at the cloches and blackboard, love it.

Look at the white mirror and the silver missing, isn't it just awesome. I've gathered a few mirrors such as this for a while now, but each time I've taken them to shows, I wind up putting them back in my truck and not selling them. I just can't seem to part with them just yet.

Now this is a bathroom. I am so loving this tub. Isn't it fabulous!

More beautiful eye candy!!

Okay, look at that chair. Wouldn't you love to have it. I must do a post soon on my love for tattered and well loved chairs. Now that mirror would leave me speechless if I saw it in person.

Smitten's Open House

This last Sunday was Smitten's Open House in McKinney. I met up with Nancy of Ella Elaine and we walked around enjoying the shop's pretty displays. There was wassil and goodies to be enjoyed, but the best part was, all the wonderful things they had set up in the store. These girls go all out for decorating and finding the best vintage things. Their windows are always displayed so pretty.

The mirror hung on this door was just awesome.

Shabby Cute Shop

On our way home on Friday, we drove into downtown Harlingen looking for a shop I had previously visited, Lola's Antiques, but sadly they told me they had closed down. I did come across this cute shop, but they were very adamant about pictures not being taken so I could only show you the outside windows. I would have loved to have showed you inside, it was decorated really cute in white and shabby things.

Christmas at "The P"

We started out early down the road to see Mindy's new shop "The P" in Royce City Texas for her Christmas Open House. She's done a great job of moving her business into this new place. She had really awesome industrial pieces and her signature brown tree, Christmas items, wonderful smelling candles, and a mixture of it all. The brown tree was just the right size and color and I think it's still available. You'll also find Robelyn's great designs, her purses, shirts, and hats here as well. Take a look:

I am linking up with Debra for her Vintage Inspiration Friday posts and wanted to showcase a truely talented designer that I met a while back, Brenda from Penn River. I first met her at the Homestead Antique Fair in Hico Tx back in the Spring. I was instantly drawn to her booth as were many customers. She reminded me of Carol Hicks Bolton of the Homestead Store in Fredericksburg. Her dark colors of fabrics mixed with the lighter ones I think is what really drew me in, but then the way she redid items was just amazing too. She has a true designer's eye for taking something that was different when she originally purchased it and turns it into a work of art. Take for example, her lamp shades. A lamp shade alone isn't really that pretty to look at, but when you add scrim and vintage doo dads to it, it becomes just spectacular. Her pillows are just so pretty as well. She was at the Hico Antique Show again this time and I couldn't wait to check out her space. Take a look and tell me what you think:

See the two ticking pillows with seam binding and fabric tied around them. It's funny how we just buy each others things. These pillows were mine and believe I sold them at The Red Barn Antique show and she said she bought them from Lanna of Antique Queens in Rockdale.

I loved the burlap covered shade.

See how she adds pretty things to her pillows, broches, lace, ribbon, it all works.

This shade had to be my favorite one since it's made with scrim.

Patina Green and a Reveal

Saturday we dropped by Patina Green to see all their wonderful European treasures that they had brought back, but before I show you what we saw, I want to reveal a surprise. My new blog, Discarded Forlorn, was started a while back because this is the direction that I am wanting to take new business to. I've had the blog Garden Antqs Vintage for a while now and felt that with the direction of my new business I should start a new blog. I hadn't kept it a secret for any reason other than I was trying to discover something new and since I wasn't sure what direction I wanted at the time, felt I had to discover what it was exactly that I was wanting to do with my new business. I hope if you've stopped by before that you are enjoying the direction that this blog is taking. If you've never visited please take a moment to see some of my previous posts. I've really enjoyed discovering something new and hope you'll enjoy the new journey with me.

Now, getting back to Patina Green, there were such beautiful things in every corner. There was also a house full of people everywhere. We had to wait in line, not long, for our lunch and it's a good thing we got there when we did because we got the last sandwich. The salad was just so fresh and wonderful and the dressing was just awesome. It was so relaxing to sit and eat our lunch and just soak up the shop.

This is one of first things that caught my eye, look at all the wonderful treasures here:

This garden piece made such a statement. I could see it on a beautiful wall in a garden surrounded by beautiful plants.

The three planters were so pretty displayed across the table.

The Finest Details

Hello All! Hope you had a great weekend and did something you really enjoy. When you are shopping for something do you ever notice that sometimes it's the finest details that catch your attention and draw you in. Recently, when I was looking through an old issue of Victoria Magazine (I am such a magazine junky), I came across this shop and just loved the attention to detail that she puts into her place, Patina Antiques and Home in Denver Colorado.

I love all the brown bottles, the sizes, the tectures, the uniqueness, it all works grouped together.

More things just piled together.

For me, anything that involves nature, nests, feathers, shells, I can't get enough of it.

And tell me who doesn't love ironstone and spools all piled together. My kind of things. I hope you have a great week and will notice the finest of details in your displays.

Rainy Day

Hello all, has it been raining in your neck of the woods this week. We've had enough rain to last us for a while and I'm ready for it stop. Which got me to thinking (this could be dangerous), with Round Top/Warrenton Antique Shows just around the corner, I thought I'd send you some inspirational photos to maybe look at to get you all inspired for the shows. Not that you need any inspiration, I'm just saying. And besides, who knows maybe you'll find these types of things when you are at the shows or maybe you already have similar things. Old Village Hall

Hello all. I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend. I am curuious about what catches your eye in a display? For me it has to be visually appealing, different, unique, like none other, someone that thinks outside the box, a very creative soul. As I was flipping through this magazine, Old Village Hall, caught my attention. Too bad it's located in New York, but they do have an online shop and blog.

And as I was reading more about this place, which reminded me a whole lot of Ralph Lauren, I then understood why. The owner, Scott Hill, used to dress windows for Ralph Lauren and then he launched his own home-design store. Take a look and tell me what you think:

Have You Seen Dan's Work?

Good Monday morning to you. I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. Today I wanted to share you with a designer that I recently found and he's becoming a fast favorite, Dan Marty of Dan Marty Design. He is currently working with Maison au Naturel in Los Angeles. His eye for display and the way he puts his unique style on the displays is really refreshing.

Take a look at this:

Who knew that hay could look so good!

Look at the statement he's made by grouping all these bottles together:

Who needs flowers when you can have this on your dresser.

The glass cloches look so good again grouped together.

I love the impact of this table. Wouldn't this look great in a foyer with the mirrors too of course.

He really loves items grouped in multiples:

And I couldn't agree more. Love the wall of antlers mounted. Now this is a visual feast for the eyes. So tell me, what or who inspires you?

Discarded and Forlorn

Some of you may be wondering where I came up with my blog name. So let me explain. Many times when I'm out looking at antique shops, shows, or flea markets, I come across objects that to most would seem to be discarded items. Something you really would not want in your home or place and wonder why anyone would want to buy it. But I can see an item and sometimes immediately see the potential or will just know I can use it in a project or repurpose it.

The meaning of DISCARDED is: To throw away; reject; To throw out (a playing card) from one's hand. A discarded item. One that is discarded or rejected.

And FORLORN means: Appearing sad or lonely because deserted or abandoned. Forsaken or deprived: forlorn of all hope. Wretched or pitiful in appearance or condition: forlorn roadside shacks. Nearly hopeless; desperate.

Here are some examples of things that could fall in these categories:

I saw this chair at one of the shops I was at and just loved the look of it. I can think of so many possibilities you could do with this. Do you see what I mean or is it just me?

Here's another example, take Shelley's chair for instance. Some of you may think well it has good bones, but needs to be recovered, but I see the beauty in it just like it is and wouldn't do anything to it.

I would buy any of these chairs in a New York minute, if the price was right, even if my husband asked, "Why do you want that", see he doesn't really get it either. So what do you think? Is this something that would interest you or would you pass them by.

What are your plans for the weekend. Will you go out searching for things. I hope whatever your plans are you enjoy yourself no matter what. Life's too short not to.

I'm in Love with a French...

settee or anything French for that matter. I love the curves and lines of this French Settee:

This piece made me really stop and just stare at the beauty of it when I first saw the picture of it. And to know that is is signed and dates back to 1780 is just amazing. What a wonderful find. You can read more about it here.

Then, I came across this French Home and Garden site and they had such lovely things for sale, all French of course as they bring containers back from France. Just take a look at all their lovelies:

These things are just absolutely beautiful in this picture.

And the curves on the legs of this French Bistro table, industrial cool.

Another lovely table with gorgeous concrete pieces below it. Love the zinc top on this table. I could spend many many hours at this shop.

I have a Dark Side

As you can see in my last post, I love Industrial and Wood things, but I also love dark pieces mixed with light or white pieces too. Case in point. Take a chocolate brown painted wall mixed with a light airy iron bed and add white linens and it just pops. Or take a thick chunky wooden bed and add it in a lightly painted room and it just seems so peaceful to me. I like to mix light pieces of furniture if a room is painted in a dark color or vise versa.

Here's another example of what seems to work for me. The dark wood and industrial items have a mascaline appeal to it and then you can dress it up or down and even add a few touches of romance to it, like the flowers.

See how the dark furniture just pops against the lighter colored walls. This is what I love and how I like to decorate.

Even if you add a pop of color, it still has a calmness about it.

The next three bedrooms gives you idea of using light with dark:

Cool & Industrial

I wanted to show you some things that normally catch my attention when I'm out looking for things and maybe this will tell you more about me. I love industrial items, from chairs to tables, lamps, mirrors you name it and if you throw in a great wooden piece then I'm really happy. The wooden pieces that appeal to me most are the cubbies that have many drawers. You can take a piece like this and put it anywhere in your home from your kitchen to studio to laundry room and repurpose it into something else.

Speaking of repurposing, take this metal cart:

It was probably used in some type of warehouse. But can you see this being in a porch or a living room holding your TV. Of course you'd need to own a loft to have just the right cool factor going on, don't you think. Here recently, I've seen some pretty cool looking loft areas in Dallas.

Personally, I'd pair a cart such as this with a cool metal light, such as this pair:

This would really be an interesting item to have around as well.

An old movie light. I saw something like this a while back at the Canton Texas First Monday Flea Market, but had to pass because of the price. I know they aren't cheap by any means so if you find one a great price, you better snatch it up.

I'm also drawn to wooden tables with metal legs:

Bareing the raw metal is more appealing to me than painted pieces. You can always strip the color if you find one painted.

I'd probably pair a piece like that with chairs like this:

And of course you'd need lights like this too:

But then who wouldn't want a wooden piece such as this:
